Radiation safety glasses or Lead Glasses are worn in environments with a risk of exposure to ionizing radiation, especially to the eyes. These environments can include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Medical Facilities: Doctors, nurses, technicians, or other healthcare professionals may need to wear radiation safety glasses in certain areas of hospitals or clinics, especially when working with medical imaging equipment such as X-rays, CT scanners, fluoroscopy, or certain types of interventional radiology procedures.
- Research Laboratories: Scientists or researchers who work with radioactive materials or radiation-producing devices in laboratories should wear radiation safety glasses.
- Nuclear Power Plants: Employees in nuclear power plants or other nuclear facilities are often exposed to ionizing radiation, so wearing safety glasses is necessary.
- Industrial Settings: In industries where non-destructive testing (NDT) uses radiographic methods and where radiation is used in manufacturing, safety glasses would be beneficial.
- Dental Clinics: Dental health professionals using or near radiographic procedures should wear radiation safety glasses.
Remember, it's not only important to know where to wear them, but also to wear them correctly, covering the eyes completely. You should always follow the safety guidelines of your workplace and the advice of your radiation safety officer (RSO).
